An email regarding Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton senior Tyler Oberg came a few days ago saying:

“You referenced in a story a few days ago that Tyler’s teammates said he should hit the weight room. His accomplishments in the weight room may be worthy of a story in itself. He squats comparable to NFL players….”

The email was referring to a baseball game between D-G-F and Frazee in which Oberg hit a double off the fence. His teammates yelled from the bench for him to hit the weight room. Later in the doubleheader, Oberg hit one over the fence.

Apparently, the email wasn’t that far off. Standing just 5-foot-8 and around 220 pounds, Oberg can squat 625 pounds. It’s certainly up there with some of those listed by NFL.com as the strongest college football players from 2015.

Standing at 6-feet, 324 pounds, Ole Miss defensive tackle D.J. Jones, named by NFL.com as the 14th-strongest player in college football, squats 650 pounds.

Virginia Tech’s Augie Conte, who is ranked 10th, is 6-foot-6 and 303 pounds. He squats 575 pounds.

Kenneth Dixon, a running back out of Lousiana Tech ranked ninth, who was just drafted by the Baltimore Ravens, squats 615 pounds at 5-foot-10 and 213 pounds.

Ranked fifth, Darien Harris, a linebacker who just signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent, squats 650.

Deon-Tay McManus, a wide receiver from Marshall, came in at No. 4 on the list and squats 550 pounds.

As for the top three strongest college players from 2015, according to NFL.com, Oberg has a bit of a ways to go.

Connor McGovern, former Fargo Shanley standout, who was just drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round, squats 750. Owen Williams, who just signed with Atlanta as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee, squats 710 pounds.
